OAS Electoral Observation Mission Deploys in Brazil for the Second Round of the Presidential Vote

The Electoral Observation Mission of the Organization of American States (EOM/OAS) to the general elections in Brazil returned this week to the country to observe the second round of the presidential vote, to be held on October 28.

Headed once again by the former President of Costa Rica Laura Chinchilla, the Mission will be composed of 30 experts and observers that will be deployed in 11 states of the country and the Federal District. Moreover, six people will observe the vote abroad in Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Montreal, Paris, Santiago, and Washington D.C.

The Mission, which observed the October 7 elections, will resume its analysis of the key aspects of the electoral process. After the election, it will present a consolidated report that will include findings and recommendations in terms of electoral organization and technology, campaign financing, media and freedom of expression, political participation of women, electoral justice and the participation of indigenous peoples and afro-descendants.
