OAS Secretary General Congratulates the Prime Minister of Grenada

  February 25, 2013

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister of Grenada, Keith Mitchell, saying his "resounding victory" is a "confirmation of the confidence which the people of Grenada have in your leadership and vision of the future."

In the letter, the leader of the hemispheric organization highlighted that citizens of Grenada "exercised their civic responsibility in a free and fair manner" during the general elections that took place on February 19 in the Caribbean country, and which included the participation of an OAS Electoral Observation Mission.

"That the elections were also conducted in an admirably calm and peaceful atmosphere is a tribute to the strongly held democratic traditions for which Grenada and its CARICOM partners are well known," said Secretary General Insulza, who also expressed the willingness of the organization he leads to support government initiatives to promote development in the country.
