  February 23, 2012

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, sent his condolences to the Government and people of Argentina for the dramatic loss of lives caused by the collision of a railroad train in the city of Buenos Aires.

In a letter addressed to the Argentine President, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, Secretary General Insulza said he felt “profoundly dismayed by the tragic accident that affected her country,” and expressed his “heartfelt condolences and solidarity with her person, Government and the Argentine people.”

The head of the OAS noted that the “terrible” event that cost “so many lives, is mourned not only by the Argentine families, but by all of us Latin Americans.”

Finally, the OAS Secretary General hopes that “the hundreds of injured will be able to recover fully and return as soon as possible next to their loved ones,” and he asked President Fernández de Kirchner to pass on his condolences “in a special way to the families of the victims.”
