OAS and Amazon Web Services Present Third Joint White Paper to Reinforce the Cybersecurity of Small and Medium Enterprises

  September 18, 2018

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Amazon Web Services (AWS) presented in Toronto a white paper on the challenges and opportunities of cyber security for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). With this publication, the third in a series of joint white papers, and other initiatives that will be developed later this year, the two organizations seek to increase the level of awareness of government leaders, private sector and society in general of the importance of cybersecurity.

Under the title "Opportunities and challenges for SMEs in Cybersecurity", the report incorporates key aspects for the management of cybersecurity for SMEs such as data privacy, awareness of cybersecurity in the environment of SMEs, the role of government in the creation of a healthy cybersecurity ecosystem for this type of companies, as well as active measures or recommendations for these companies to strengthen their cybersecurity capacities.

The Secretary of Multidimensional Security of the OAS, Farah Urrutia, said "small and medium enterprises are the engine of the Latin American economy. The OAS and AWS understand that we must work together with all the actors involved, because we all are exposed to cybersecurity incidents. This document deals with crucial considerations related to the protection of personal data and privacy, as well as the creation of a security culture."
