OAS to Observe Test Run of Election Activities Ahead of May 1 Vote in Dominican Republic

The Organization of American States (OAS) will send a team of specialists to the Dominican Republic to observe a test run of the election activities which will take place May 1, within the framework of the Electoral Observation Mission that the OAS will deploy to the country before election day on May 15. The experts will be able to witness the operation of the equipment used for counting votes.

On May 15, the week before the election, experts and observers will be deployed to carry out an exhaustive analysis of electoral organization and technology, financing and development of campaigns, the media, and equal participation of women and men in the race. The work of this team will be recorded in a preliminary report, which will then be presented the day after the election and will include the main findings and recommendations regarding the election.

To date, the OAS has deployed 15 Electoral Observation Missions to the Dominican Republic.
