OAS and ProFuturo Launch a Call to Create the Largest Mapping of Best Practices in Digital Education in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Organization of American States (OAS) and ProFuturo, the digital education program of Fundación Telefónica Movistar and Fundación "la Caixa," seek to identify the best practices in digital education in Latin America and the Caribbean that provide innovative solutions to post-pandemic educational challenges, and that serve as a reference in the context of the return to school attendance. To this end, they are calling on civil society organizations and public or private educational entities of any educational level that are registered in the countries of the region to submit their best practices between August 8 and September 8.

Selected best practices will make up the largest mapping of best practices in digital education in the region, which pursues two objectives:

• To recognize initiatives from schools and civil society organizations that contemplate innovative and scalable pedagogical practices with the integration of new digital technologies.
• To make visible initiatives that promote learning opportunities and contribute to the development of programs aimed at improving the teaching-learning process in the region.

Participants can apply for one or several internships started as of 2020 and currently active, that integrate new digital technologies as resources to improve teaching-learning processes and the accompaniment of school trajectories. For example: virtual tutoring initiatives for students and teachers, experiences of communities of teaching practices in digital education or educational projects that incorporate technology for the development of specific skills such as mathematics, computational thinking, or robotics.

The best practices will be announced in September and, until the end of the year, several recognition actions will take place. Among them, an interactive map will be created on the OAS Educational Portal as a repository open to the public and a video will be published with the most outstanding practices, which will also receive a certification from the OAS General Secretariat.

Likewise, four best practices will be selected (two from educational entities and two from CSOs) that will have the opportunity to invite one of their teachers to attend in person the 5th edition of “enlightED”, the world conference on education, technology and innovation organized by Fundación Telefónica, IE University and South Summit, which will take place in Madrid on November 16 and 17.

The Mapping of Best Practices in Digital Education in the Americas is part of the OAS–ProFuturo alliance, whose objective is to support the countries of the region to strengthen digital education in their national policies to promote inclusive, equitable and quality education, through the implementation or incorporation of sustainable digital education projects.
