STATEMENT BY THE CHAIRMAN OF THE PERMANENT COUNCIL OF THE
OAS REGARDING RECENT EVENTS IN BOLIVIA

The Chairman of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS), Paraguay’s Ambassador Manuel María Cáceres, has expressed the hope that the current political crisis in Bolivia will be resolved and that agreement will be reached through dialogue, to bring about national reconciliation and respect for the rule of law and constitutional order, in accordance with the terms of the Inter-American Democratic Charter.

At the same time, he expressed firm support for President Carlos Mesa Gisbert as he seeks to maintain and consolidate the country’s democratic institutions.
