Insulza opined that the Summit is a “unique opportunity” to strengthen multilateralism by allowing all OAS member states to sit down together and discuss a plethora of burning issues confronting the hemisphere, ranging from the impact of the global financial crisis on the Hemisphere and the need for a collective and effective response, to human prosperity, energy security and environmental sustainability. He noted that the outcome of this process would contribute to the enhancement of integration among OAS member states and the strengthening of the inter-American system. He also pledged the full support of the OAS to continuing to work with the Government of Trinidad and Tobago to ensure the success of the Summit.
