OAS Electoral Technical Assessment Mission Arrives in Grenada

In response to a request from Prime Minister Tillman Thomas to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, an OAS electoral technical mission arrived in Grenada on January 21 to conduct an independent assessment of the voter registration system.

The six-person team is composed of specialists in the area of electoral law, electoral statistics and electoral technology and will be in Grenada for two weeks.

On its first day, the technical mission held meetings with the Governor General, Prime Minister Tillman Thomas, the leader of the opposition Keith Mitchell and the Supervisor of Elections.

The mission will also be meeting with government officials, political parties, civil society groups and other stakeholders throughout the week to gather information on the voter registration process.

Following the deployment of the technical mission, the General Secretariat of the OAS will present a report on its findings and provide recommendations regarding the voter registration system.
