OAS Hosts Regional Workshops on Cooperation Effectiveness in Guatemala
November 12, 2010
The Organization of American States (OAS), in its role as the technical secretariat of the Inter-American Cooperation Network (CooperaNet), will host two sub-regional workshops on cooperation effectiveness, entitled, “Cooperation Effectiveness, the Central American Chapter,” on November 16 and 17, 2010, and “Preparatory Workshop on the Paris Declaration Survey,” on November 17 and 18, 2010. The workshops will be held in La Antigua Guatemala, Guatemala.
Both workshops seek to promote a more active and better coordinated regional role in international cooperation forums, particularly in view of the Fourth High Level Forum (HLF4) on Aid Effectiveness to be held in Busan, Korea in late 2011.
The first workshop is part of the OAS’s agenda for cooperation effectiveness in Latin America and the Caribbean and is designed to inform national authorities about trends and key issues in international discussions on cooperation effectiveness, as well as engage them in an exchange of ideas on a number of topics, including South-South cooperation.
The second workshop is part of the preparation process for governments and partners for the third and last round of Monitoring the Paris Declaration, which commits donors and partner countries to carry out three rounds of monitoring ahead of the HLF4. The results of the survey will be an important contribution to assess the progress that has been made regarding the commitments made by partner countries and donors in Paris in 2005.
The events will be co-hosted by the OAS and the Government of Guatemala, through the Secretariat for Planning and Programming (SEGEPLAN), in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), the Government of the United States, through USAID, the Government of Canada, through CIDA, the Government of the United Kingdom, through DFID, and the European Union.
