  November 28, 2011

The Organization of American States (OAS) will hold from November 30 to December 3, the 30th Model OAS General Assembly for High Schools (MOAS/HS) at the Organization’s Headquarters in Washington, DC.

In this opportunity, the MOAS will have participation of 280 students and 25 faculty advisors from 7 different states in the United States, who will debate, negotiate and approve resolutions dealing with current issues of the inter-American agenda, such as the prevention of trafficking of children; the role of the OAS in promoting good governance; the rights of migrant workers; border security to combat terrorism; the rights of people with disabilities; disaster risk reduction; and social inclusion through cultural diversity programs.

The MOAS, coordinated by the OAS Department of International Affairs, seeks to promote democratic values among the youth while familiarizing them with the mission and role of the OAS, through a simulation of the General Assembly in which students represent the OAS Member States.
