Experts to Debate at the OAS the Rights of Victims of Terrorism

Diplomats and experts on terrorism will meet on Monday November 10, at 16:00 ET (21:00 GMT) at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS), within the framework of the 63rd Policy Roundtable to discuss the most relevant aspects related to the human rights of the victims of terrorism and the legal instruments at their disposal.

The event, sponsored by the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) of the OAS, will feature welcoming remarks by the Chief of Staff of Secretary General José Miguel Insulza, Hugo de Zela, followed by presentations by the Permanent Representative of Peru to the OAS, Juan Jiménez; the First Executive Director of the Committee against Terrorism of the United Nations Security Council, Javier Ruperez; the Director General of Support to Victims of Terrorism of the Interior Ministry of Spain, Sonia Ramos Piñeiro; and the Director of the Office of Justice for Victims of Overseas Terrorism of the U.S. Department of Justice, Heather Cartwright. The Executive Secretary of CICTE, Neil Klopfenstein, will moderate the dialogue.

The closing remarks of the event will be delivered by the Permanent Observer of Spain to the OAS, Jorge Hevia. The Roundtable will also mark the opening of the photo exhibition “En Pie de Foto, Víctimas del Terrorismo” at the Art Museum of the Americas in Washington DC
