  December 11, 2015

The Fourth Meeting of the Conference of States Parties to the Mechanism for Follow-Up on the Implementation of the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC), convened by the Organization of American States (OAS), will bring together the highest national authorities responsible for fighting corruption on December 14 and 15 in Washington DC to assess the progress made and pending challenges in the field.

During the two-day meeting, members of the MESICIC Technical Secretariat will present the Hemispheric Report of the Fourth Round of Review of the MESICIC, which focused on the analysis of oversight bodies, and those entities in charge of the prevention, investigation, prosecution, judgment and punishment of corrupt practices. The meeting will also include analysis of the role and responsibility of the private sector in preventing and combating this scourge as well as the international nature and scope of corruption and the possible ways to address it.

The Conference, that last met in 2010, will be opened by the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro; the Permanent Representative of Brazil to the OAS, José Luiz Machado E. Costa, as Chair of the Conference; and the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the U.S. Department of State, Luis Arreaga.
