Security Ministers of the Americas Meet in Ecuador -in the Framework of the OAS- to Strengthen International Cooperation on Public Security

  October 28, 2019

The Seventh Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas (MISPA VII) will be held in Quito, Ecuador, on October 30 and 31, 2019. The hemispheric meeting will seek in its debates and resolutions collective solutions to strengthen international cooperation in public security to prevent and combat organized crime.

The meeting, organized by the Ministry of Government of Ecuador and the Organization of American States (OAS), which serves as the technical secretariat of the MISPA process, will be inaugurated by the President of Ecuador, Lenín Moreno, and the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, at 10:30 local time (15:30 GMT).

The two-day event will be divided into panel discussions where the authorities will present perspectives and comments on:

• Public policies and regional strategies to prevent and combat transnational crime that undermines public security;
• Police cooperation and strengthening criminal intelligence in the fight against transnational organized crime; and
• Regional experiences and principal discussions around measuring public security indicators on transnational organized crime.

MISPA is the highest hemispheric political forum for addressing public security issues, held every two years, where Ministers address the main challenges and developments related to security in the Americas; identify emerging threats; strengthen bilateral and regional cooperation; and encourage knowledge and experience sharing.
