OAS to Launch First Pilot Drug Treatment Court in Trinidad and Tobago

The Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD) of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the government of Trinidad and Tobago will launch the country’s first pilot Drug Treatment Court, on Tuesday, September 11 in the Caribbean country.
The ceremony will be attended by the Minister of National Security, Austin Jack Warner, the Chief Justice Ivor Archie, the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Albert Ramdin, and other senior officials.
Throughout 2011 and 2012, Trinidad and Tobago has participated in various international activities on Drug Treatment Courts organized by CICAD. The courts are an alternative to incarceration for people with addiction problems who have committed minor offenses.
