OAS, CAF, and Inter-American Dialogue to Hold Conference on Key Issues for Development in Latin America

The XVIII Annual Conference of the Development Bank of Latin America (CAF), the Organization of American States (OAS), and the Inter-American Dialogue will be held tomorrow Wednesday, September 3, and Thursday, September 4, in Washington, DC.

The meeting, which aims to encourage reflection on key issues that impact development in Latin America and its insertion in the international scene, will be opened at 14:00 EDT (18:00 GMT) tomorrow, Wednesday, by the OAS Secretary General, José Miguel Insulza; the CAF President, Enrique García; and the President of the Inter-American Dialogue, Michael Shifter.

During the two-day conference, some 50 panelists will discuss Latin America’s current issues such as elections, economic perspectives, the upcoming Summit of the Americas, energy challenges, as well as the Hemisphere’s social situation. Scheduled speakers include former President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón; Haiti’s Prime Minister, Laurent Lamothe; and former Secretary General of the Ibero-American Cooperation Secretariat (SECIB) and former President of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), Enrique Iglesias.
