OAS to Donate Firearms Marking Equipment to Saint Vincent and the Grenadines

The Organization of American States (OAS) will donate firearms marking equipment to the Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines to be used by its Ministry of Security to improve control measures against the illicit trafficking of this type of arms.

The donation will be made at 10:00 local time (14:00 GMT) on June 15, 2011, in the Old Montrose Police Station in Kingstown with the participation of authorities from the Ministry of Security and police. Furthermore, the OAS Department of Public Security will provide training to half a dozen officials from the Ministry of Security.

The donation is part of the project, “Promoting Firearms Marking in Latin America and the Caribbean,” that falls within the Inter-American Convention Against Illicit Manufacturing of and Trafficking in Firearms (CIFTA), and seeks to strengthen national capabilities in matters of firearms marking and control.
