OAS/Mexico: Secretary General Almagro on Working Visit

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, begins this Friday in Mexico a working visit in which he will meet with senior government officials and take part in several academic and political forums and conferences.

The Secretary General is scheduled to meet with representatives of the three branches of government of the Republic, such as Foreign Minister Claudia Ruiz Massieu, the Supreme Court, and the Mexican Senate. He will also meet with representatives of academics and human rights defenders.

On Friday, among other activities, he will participate in the Global Conference on Money in Politics – organized by the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (IDEA International) and the Electoral Tribunal of the Federal Judicial Branch (TEPJF) -, where he will address transparency in electoral campaigns as a cornerstone of the democratic system.

On Monday and Tuesday he is scheduled to meet with the Rector of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), the Commission and Court of Human Rights, and officials of the government of Mexico, in addition to delivering a keynote speech at UNAM.
