“LATIN AMERICAN ECONOMIC OUTLOOK 2008” TO BE LAUNCHED AT OAS

  November 30, 2007

OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza and the Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Angel Gurría, are set to launch the publication Latin American Economic Outlook 2008 on Thursday, December 6, 2007.

Following the launch of the OECD publication, a panel discussion will be held. The panelists are Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) President Luis Alberto Moreno; Frank Fukuyama, of Johns Hopkins University’s Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies; Pamela Cox, of the World Bank; and Inter-American Dialogue’s Peter Hakim.

The OECD’s Development Center has published this first report on the economic outlook for the region in keeping with a decision by the OECD member countries last May to establish closer ties with the world’s largest emerging economies. Besides budgetary policy, Latin American Economic Outlook 2008 examines other elements of economic policy, such as pension scheme reforms.

The event will be webcast live at (www.oas.org).
