OAS to Hold Roundtable on “The Rights of Women: From Law to Practice”

The Organization of American States (OAS) will host on Friday, March 1, at 10:00 EST (15:00 GMT), the 49th OAS Policy Roundtable entitled “The Rights of Women: From Law to Practice.”

The event will feature opening remarks by the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, and the President of Inter-American Commission of Women (CIM), Maureen Clarke. Introductory remarks on the issue will be made by the Minister of Women’s Affairs and Women’s Rights of Haiti, Marie Yanick Mézile.

The Roundtable will also feature a panel discussion moderated by the OAS Coordinator of the Follow-Up Mechanism to the Belém do Pará Convention, Luz Patricia Mejia; and that will include the participation of the Commissioner and Rapporteur on the Rights of Women, of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), Tracy Robinson; the representative of the Legal Research Institute of the Universidad Autónoma de México (UNAM), Teresa Inchaustegui; and the Senior Attorney for Women´s Link, Katherine Romero. The meeting will conclude with the words of the Executive Secretary of the CIM, Carmen Moreno.
