OAS TO KICK OFF LATIN AMERICAN FILM FESTIVAL IN WASHINGTON

The Organization of American States (OAS) will launch the 2003 Latin American Film Festival next Wednesday with a press conference to introduce participating filmmakers, followed by a reception that evening at 6:30 p.m.

The OAS helps sponsor the annual Latin American Film Festival, which is organized by the Cultural Foundation of the Americas, the American Film Institute (AFI) and the Association of Ibero-American Cultural Attachés. This year’s festival, which runs from September 18 to 28, will showcase a total of 36 films, including features, short films, films from literature and children’s movies.

Films from 14 countries in the Americas – Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay, Panama, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela – will be screened at the AFI National Film Theatre at the Kennedy Center and at the AFI Silver Theatre and Cultural Center in Silver Spring, Maryland.
