OAS and United Nations to Strengthen Cooperation on Transnational Security Issues

The Organization of American States (OAS), through its Secretariat for Multidimensional Security, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding Wednesday, February 24, to strengthen cooperation activities in the fight against the production, use and illegal trafficking of drugs; organized crime and terrorism, including human trafficking and the trafficking of firearms; money laundering; corruption and cybercrime, and other areas of mutual interest.

OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert R. Ramdin will sign on behalf of the hemispheric organization. An official ceremony will be held at 15:00 EST (20:00 GMT) on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, at United Nations headquarters in New York City.
