“The Challenges of Globalization and the New Role of Universities in the Hemisphere” will be the theme of the upcoming Thirty-third Lecture of the Lecture Series of the Americas to be held on Wednesday, February 4th and organized by the Secretariat of External Relations of the Organization of American States (OAS).
Guest speakers will include Messrs. Rafael Rangel Sostmann, President of the Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (TEC); Michael M. Crow, Presidente of Arizona State University; and Raúl Bao García, President of the Universidad San Martín de Porres (USMP) from Perú, who will be presenting their perspectives on the new challenges faced by academia and the way educational institutions are preparing to respond to globalization.
The lecturers of this event come from different regions of the Americas, where they have been widely acknowledged for their work in modernizing the institutions they lead. Dr. Rangel, who presides the TEC since 1985, has significantly increased research in the University, especially in strategic areas for Mexico’s development, and has promoted the creation of Business incubators and technological parks to improve the synergy between the university and the productive sector.
Michael Crow has been the President of Arizona State University since 2002 and has led the transformation of the University into one of the leading public metropolitan universities in the field of research.
Finally, Dr. Bao García, who has been applying his expertise at USMP for over 25 years, has achieved consolidation of USMP’s reputation and prestige as one of the country’s foremost private universities.
The Lecture, which will be broadcast live online (www.oas.org) will be moderated by noted The Miami Herald syndicated columnist, Andrés Oppenheimer.
