Honduras: OAS Secretary General Participates in Anti-Corruption Activities
January 14, 2017
The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, will visit Tegucigalpa on January 17 and 18 to participate in a series of anti-corruption activities.
Among them is the act of Promulgation of the Law of Control, Transparency and Financing of Political Parties and Campaigns, and the delivery of the list of candidates for anti-corruption judges to the President of the Supreme Court of Justice.
"The visit of Secretary Almagro is a confirmation of the institutional commitment of the OAS to the actions carried out by the MACCIH to date and that have prepared the institutional juridical ground with concrete measures against corruption and impunity," said Juan Jiménez, spokesperson of the OAS Mission to Support the Fight against Corruption and Impunity in Honduras (MACCIH).
The two initiatives mentioned have been supported by the MACCIH, which has been deployed in Honduras since April 2016.
During his visit, Almagro will meet with the President of the Republic, Juan Orlando Hernández, authorities of the Judiciary, representatives of civil society, political parties and academics, among others.
