The new Permanent Representative of Honduras, Luis Cordero, presented his credentials today to the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, during a virtual ceremony.

Ambassador Cordero said progress must be made in taking essential measures to address the damage caused by COVID-19. "The magnitude of the crisis generated by the pandemic is expected to be the greatest we have experienced in the last century and it will occupy a central place on our agenda in the coming months,” said the Honduran diplomat.

For his part, Secretary General Almagro said the pandemic has had serious health, economic and social consequences and urged the Chair of the Council to promote initiatives that help the countries of the hemisphere. “Ambassador Cordero you assume your office in difficult times, know that we depend on the contributions of Honduras to move ahead,” added the OAS Secretary General.

Before becoming his country's Permanent Representative, Cordero was Alternate Representative and Charge d'Affaires of Honduras to the OAS.
