The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today participated in a work session of the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), aimed at agreeing on the methodology of the report that the Sixth Summit of the Americas, held in Cartagena, Colombia, requested of the hemispheric organization to analyze the results of the policies carried out so far in the region, with regard to the fight against drugs, and to explore new approaches to this issue.

Secretary General Insulza met with the members and specialists of the CICAD Executive Secretariat at the headquarters of the OAS to determine the issues in the field and the contents of chapters of the document to be presented next year.

Insulza said the task to be carried out is a “mandate from the Presidents of the Americas,” and expressed hope “that this is not just another report” on the subject, as the task entrusted to the OAS “has aroused a significant interest” in the region.
