The Chief of Staff of the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Ambassador Hugo de Zela, and the Secretary of Political Affairs of the hemispheric institution, Kevin Casas-Zamora, arrived today in Asunción to discuss with the Paraguayan government the details of the mission of electoral accompaniment and observation for the general elections of April 2013.

Ambassador De Zela and Casas-Zamora are in the country as envoys sent by the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, in order to familiarize themselves with the situation as much as possible and make contact with key political and social actors in the South American country. Immediately after their arrival, they met with the Paraguayan Foreign Minister, José Félix Fernandez Estigarribia.

Before arriving in Asuncion, the envoys of Secretary General Insulza traveled to Lima, Peru, where they held talks with Peruvian Foreign Minister Rafael Roncagliolo, and with Salomon Lerner, who chairs the High Level Group of UNASUR on the case of Paraguay.
