OAS to expand Opportunities of Academic Training for Candidates of the Inter-American Defense College

The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States, and the Inter-American Defense Board in support of the Inter-American Defense College today presented a cooperation agreement that will allow candidates of programs at the College to have access to the different options of scholarships and financial aid offered by the OAS. Likewise, they will develop a joint collaboration through the Educational Portal of the Americas, to expand the educational reach in online courses and the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).

The Chair of the Permanent Council and Permanent Representative of Guatemala, Ambassador Rita Claverie de Sciolli, stressed the importance of the agreement and affirmed that “quality education is essential for the current and future development of Member States. Countries have already established their national priorities for their education systems, which are reflected in sectoral education plans, which have articulated clear objectives and goals aligned to the 2030 Agenda. ”

For his part, the Director of the Inter-American Defense College, General James Taylor, indicated that this agreement “will help less represented countries to send their students to learn more about the inter-American system and use their knowledge for the well-being of our hemisphere "

While the Director of the Department of Human Development, Education and Employment of the OAS, Jesús Schucry Giacoman, said that “the added value of this agreement is to put on the table topics of new technologies and to work closely with the Educational Portal of the Americas, platform that allows us to generate online courses and thus help train the students of the Inter-American Defense College. ”
