The Permanent Representative of Guatemala, Rita Díaz de Sciolli, today assumed the Chair of the Inter-American Council for Integral Development (CIDI) of the Organization of American States (OAS), recalling her country's commitment to advancing the Inter-American Agenda for Social Development, as agreed at the IV Meeting of Ministers and High Level Authorities on Social Development last March.

The Guatemalan diplomat said that her country “feels privileged to assume the chair of this Council with the aim of achieving full coordination with all member states and attending the priorities of the regions and subregions on priority issues such as climate change, chronic malnutrition and extreme poverty."

For her part, the outgoing President of CIDI, and Permanent Representative of Grenada, Yolande Smith, thanked the General Secretariat for prioritizing and highlighting the development agenda and “for allowing Grenada to push the envelope a little further along the lines of resilience building for sustainable development.”

CIDI is the OAS body responsible for promoting solidarity cooperation for integral development to contribute to the elimination of poverty. The CIDI Chair is held for a period of 6 months.
