The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Carnegie Foundation today signed a Memorandum of Understanding that creates a framework to cooperate more closely on programs, projects and activities related to conflict prevention and peace promotion.

The signing took place during a visit of OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro to the Carnegie Foundation in The Hague and will facilitate the exchange of information, the organization of activities and the establishment of networks that will improve the access of OAS member countries to information, knowledge and resources on these issues.

“Promoting and sustaining peace is a demanding task that involves a concerted effort from all sectors of society. It also requires the staunch support and action of the global community. I hope that through partnerships such as the one between the OAS and the Carnegie Foundation we will be able to build a constructive, vigorous, and participatory process to successfully foster dialogue for resolving conflicts within a framework of a culture of peace, that can only be created through cooperation and seeking common ground” said Secretary General Almagro during the event.
