The Organization of American States (OAS) and the General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SICA), today signed an agreement at the headquarters of the hemispheric Organization in Washington D.C. to cooperate on security and government modernization, scientific and technological development, prevention and mitigation of natural disasters and climate change, promotion and protection of human rights, youth development, and gender equality, among other topics.

During the signing, the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, assured that the agreement will help mitigate “the needs of the most vulnerable of our populations such as people with disabilities, young people, migrants and refugees.”

For his part, the SICA Secretary General, Vinicio Cerezo, assured that his organization works for “the possibility to convert the Secretariat and Central American integration into a tool to strengthen the development of our region.” He also said that the OAS “is playing a fundamental role in Latin America and the Hemisphere.”
