OAS Secretary General Meets with CARICOM Foreign Ministers

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met this morning with the ministers of foreign affairs and heads of delegation of the Caribbean countries participating in the forty-second regular session of the OAS General Assembly.

They discussed OAS programs in that region that are of greatest interest to the governments of the Caribbean. Also discussed were how to strengthen the inter-American human rights system and the scope of the mandate given by the Cartagena Summit to the OAS with respect to reviewing policies carried out to date by the OAS Member States in fighting drug trafficking.

The challenges of other important topics included on the OAS agenda were also discussed at the meeting between the head of the OAS and the Caribbean foreign ministers and heads of delegation attending the General Assembly session in Cochabamba.
