The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, took part today in the Round Table on the Rights of People with Disabilities organized by the International Organization of Telethons (ORITEL) in Miami.

During the event, directed by Mario Kreutzberger, President of ORITEL, Secretary General Insulza praised the work of the organization hosting the Round Table and said the OAS has developed lines of work designed to support efforts by governments in the region to generate public policies that allow the social inclusion of people with disabilities.

The top representative of the hemispheric organization said that the complete integration of people with disabilities into the societies of the countries of the Americas has become a priority of the OAS. He cited as an example of the organization’s commitment to the fight to eliminate discrimination in all its forms the adoption by the Member States of the Inter-American Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against People with Disabilities, which went into effect September 14, 2001.
