The Group of Friends of the Columbus Memorial Library of the Organization of American States (OAS) today presented the book, "World Cup Soccer in the Middle East," written by author Stephen Sealy, a specialist in economics from Saint Lucia.

The event was attended by Ambassador Allan Culham, Canadian Permanent Representative to the OAS, who recently assumed the Chairmanship of Group of Friends of the Columbus Memorial Library; Ambassador Michael Louis, Permanent Representative of Saint Lucia; and Beverley Wharton-Lake, Chief Librarian.

In his presentation, the book's author explained his interest in promoting sports as a tool to promote peace, and his initiative to compare the West Indies with the Middle East. Through this idea he advocates for peace and unity. "This is the story of a humble student from Cairo visiting the United States, getting inspired from a Caribbean vacation, and who decides to bring the Middle East together through soccer, winning the First World Cup, and eventually, peace," he explained.

Today's event is part of a series of presentations the Columbus Memorial Library organizes periodically with author appearances and book donations on a wide range of issues.
