The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Bolivia, Juan Carlos Alurralde, with whom he spoke about regional issues at the political, cultural and judicial levels.

During the meeting, held at OAS headquarters in Washington, DC, the two authorities analyzed the dynamics of global and hemispheric summits, the bilateral and regional interests of Bolivia and the South American country's leadership in promoting the International Year of Quinoa.

The Bolivian Deputy Foreign Minister took the opportunity to recognize the support provided by the OAS during the judicial elections held in his country on October 16, and highlighted "the excellent coordination at the national level, which was key to the success of the elections." In particular, Deputy Minister Alurralde stressed "the work of leadership and communication" by the chief of Mission, former President Martin Torrijos, and appreciated the technical support the OAS provides in the electoral area.

Another topic of conversation was the XLII OAS General Assembly to be held in Cochabamba, Bolivia, in July 2012.
