The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met Saturday evening in Managua with the President of Nicaragua, Daniel Ortega, to discuss the situation facing his Government and that of Costa Rica in the border zone of the San Juan River. President Ortega, together with Foreign Minister Samuel Santos and high military officials, presented the head of the OAS with a detailed report on his Government’s point of view of the situation in the border zone between both Central American nations.

The Secretary General was in Costa Rica earlier in the day, where he met with President Laura Chinchilla. Next Tuesday Secretary General Insulza will present a report to the Permanent Council on the possibility of establishing dialogue between Nicaragua and Costa Rica in order to search for a peaceful solution to the situation.
