OAS and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to Cooperate in the Empowerment of Women and Youth, Peace and Security

The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) today agreed to maintain an open and constructive dialogue and work together in areas such as the empowerment of women and youth, human rights, peace, development and security.

During the signing ceremony, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, highlighted several areas of interest for cooperation between the two organizations. "We will work on key matters of mutual interest for our respective communities of states starting with women's rights, education, population and development."

For his part, the OIC Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Agshin Mehdiyev, stressed that the two organizations share similar values. "We welcome the exchange of delegations between our respective headquarters to discuss opportunities for collaboration in pursuit of inclusive development, the empowerment of women and youth, and the eradication of poverty among the peoples of our member states," said Mehdiyev.
