OAS and the OEI agree to strengthen cooperation relations in the framework of the Inter-American System of Education

On the occasion fo the Forum of Authorithies of Higher education and Teacher Training in Latin America and the Caribbean (Buenos Aires, December 2 and 3 of 2016), OEI Secretary General Paulo Speller and OAS Secretary for Access to Rights and Equity Ideli Salvatti agreed to strenghten and expand collaboration in the framework of the implementation of the Inter-American System of Education.

To that end, both organizations advanced in the definition of a common working agenda, the main purpose of which will be to contribute to the reduction of educational inequality in the region through, the promotion of cooperation among countries, the exchange of best practices and the development of training and applied research actions, thereby contributing to fulfilling the Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Objectives.

The OAS and OEI commit very specifically to launch joint cooperation initiatives – along with other institutions working in the same field – aimed at supporting the creation of contents and dissemination through the Inter-American System of Education, as well as exploring other areas of work to strengthen this inter-agency alliance.
