At a special meeting, the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) paid a posthumous tribute to Ambassador Bernardo Álvarez, Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to the hemispheric body.

In his speech, Assistant Secretary General, Néstor Mendez, highlighted that during his functions as Permanent Representative, Ambassador Alvarez was characterized as "a fearless leader and deft diplomat with uncanny ability to allay tension and forge dialogue and understanding of the most complex and volatile issues."

During the session, the representatives of all member countries expressed their condolences, as did the OAS Secretary General last Friday, and recalled the legacy of the Venezuelan diplomat. During the session there was a minute of silence to honor the memory of the recently deceased Ambassador.
