Ministers and high authorities of social development of the Americas will gather in Asunción, Paraguay on July 13 and 14 at a hemispheric meeting whose theme will be: “Equity and Social Inclusion: Overcoming Inequalities for More Inclusive Societies.”

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, and the Executive Secretary for Social Action of Paraguay, Minister Héctor Cárdenas, today signed the hosting agreement for the event, and highlighted the relevance of the theme and its possible contribution to identifying ways to address poverty, inequality, and vulnerability in the Hemisphere.

The OAS acts as the technical secretariat for the high level meeting, held previously in Chile and Colombia in 2008 and 2010, respectively. In the framework of the preparations for the meeting, Minister Cárdenas presented yesterday to the Inter-American Council on Integral Development (CIDI) of the OAS and the Proposal of Commitments for Social Development that Paraguay will put forward at the meeting.
