OAS Forum Highlights Progress and Setbacks in Combating Violence Against Women

The Organization of American States (OAS) today commemorated International Women's Day with a forum entitled "Breaking the Barriers to Justice: Ending Violence against Women in the Americas," at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington, DC .

The forum was opened by the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Nestor Mendez, and the Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy and Human Rights, of the US Department of State, Sarah Sewall.

In his speech, Ambassador Mendez praised the launch of the OAS Policy for Gender Equality, Diversity and Human Rights.

The event was co-organized with the missions of the United States and Canada.
