Permanent Council Discussed Challenges in Addressing Climate Change at COP 21 in Paris

The OAS Permanent Council today discussed the challenges of the Twenty-first session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, COP21, to be held in Paris, France, in early December.

The special meeting included presentations by the Vice Minister for Strategic Development in the Ministry of the Environment of Peru, Gabriel Quijandría; the Permanent Observer of France to the OAS, Michel Pinard; and French glaciologist, Bernard Francou.

Speakers indicated that the main challenges of COP 21 Paris focus on getting 196 countries to achieve a universal and binding agreement, to reach consensus on the use of low carbon technologies in the development of infrastructure and the energy sector.
