Deputy Interior Minister of Peru Presented at the OAS Preparations for the Meeting on Police Management

The Deputy Minister for Internal Order of the Ministry of the Interior of Peru, General Mauro Medina Guimaraes, today made a presentation to the Committee on Hemispheric Security (CSH) of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) on the preparations for the "Second Meeting of the Subsidiary Technical Working Group on Police Management” that will bring together representatives of member states in Trujillo, Peru, on April 23 and 24.
Deputy Minister Medina explained that the Second Meeting of the Technical Working Group "is part of the preparatory work for the V Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas (MISPA V), to be held in Arequipa, Peru, on November 19 and 20, 2015." He added that the ministerial meeting "is part of the region's efforts to jointly address and coordinate security issues that require effective responses." "These are opportunities for the countries of the hemisphere to express their concerns and to advance in the achievement of the tools that facilitate the exchange of best practices and cooperation for strengthening such an important issue as the security of the citizens of hemisphere," he said.
The presentation also included words by the Chief General of the National Police of Peru, Romero Vicente Fernandez, who detailed the content, agenda and purpose of the meeting and said that the objective of the event is "to take concrete steps towards effective cooperation and mutual support between police forces in the hemisphere, and be able to give effective responses to the current challenges of public security."
The CSH meeting was chaired by the Permanent Representative of Honduras to the OAS, Leonidas Rosa Bautista who serves as Vice Chair of the Commission.
