OAS Secretary General Receives Deputy Foreign Minister of Guatemala

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received the Deputy Foreign Minister of Guatemala, Oscar Adolfo Padilla Lam, at the headquarters of the Organization in Washington DC.

During the meeting, Secretary General Insulza and Deputy Minister Padilla discussed issues of migration and the preparations for the upcoming Special Session of the General Assembly on drugs to be held on September 19 in Guatemala City, Guatemala, among other issues.

The head of the hemispheric Organization highlighted the importance for the OAS of the migration issue, and offered the support of the Organization in those matters which affect the region and Guatemala in particular, with initiatives such as the Migration and Development Program (MIDE). For his part, Deputy Minister Padilla discussed with Secretary Insulza the initiatives taken by his government in these matters.

Also present at the meeting was the Permanent Representative of Guatemala to the OAS, Jose Maria Argueta.
