The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today, in the framework of the XLIV OAS General Assembly in Asunción, with officials from the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA), with whom he reviewed the key issues guiding the work of the Central American body.

Secretary General Insulza underscored the consolidation of the subregional body, which had become a centerpiece of economic development in the Central American nations, and commended their role in the political debate underway in the OAS Permanent Council on the hemispheric agenda.

The foreign ministers and heads of delegation of SICA participating in the XLIV OAS General Assembly who were present at this morning’s meeting with Secretary General Insulza expressed their support for the “Strategic Vision” under consideration by the OAS Permanent Council. Also discussed at the meeting were joint efforts against drug trafficking, security, and options during the preparatory phase of the next Summit of the Americas, to be held in Panama in April 2015.
