The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today received the Foreign Minister of Peru, Eda Rivas, in his offices in Asunción, Paraguay, site of the forty-fourth regular session of the OAS General Assembly, which began this afternoon.

They discussed the general topics of the meeting of foreign ministers of the Americas being held under the slogan, "Development with Social Inclusion". The foreign minister lauded the meeting topic selected, as it was part of Peru’s agenda. Secretary General Insulza, in turn, underscored how that subject had been gaining strength worldwide, particularly in recent months.

The leader of the OAS and Peru’s top diplomat also discussed that country’s ongoing commitment to the inter-American human rights system and to its improved management. Also present at the meeting was the Chief of Staff of the Secretary General, Ambassador Hugo de Zela.
