The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the National University of Asunción today signed a cooperation agreement for the training of students and teachers; the promotion and dissemination of knowledge about the Inter-American System; and the organization of conferences, seminars, events and programs.
During the signing ceremony, which took place within the framework of the 54th OAS General Assembly that will take place this week in Asunción, the Secretary General of the OAS, Luis Almagro, highlighted the agreement as an opportunity to "expand the dissemination of the pillar concepts of our Organization and the different aspects of Inter-American law and, even, in the near future, its inclusion in the study programs of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences. Likewise, he celebrated "this cooperation alliance, and especially the opening of new paths for the dream we share: more rights for more people.”
For her part, the Dean of the Faculty of Law and Social Sciences of the National University of Asunción, Miryam Peña Candia, assured that "having the opportunity to participate in this academic undertaking typical of the Inter-American System will allow both law students and professors the possibility to access an experience that is undoubtedly very valuable in their training as jurists." The Dean also celebrated the "beginning of the ties that will unite our institutions that undoubtedly ensure fruitful mutual collaboration in the teaching and promotion of Inter-American law."
This agreement is part of the initiatives to promote and advance Inter-American law in the region carried out by the Inter-American Program for the Development of International Law of the OAS.
