The Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of the Dominican Republic today signed the agreement on preparations for the X Summit of the Americas, the meeting that will bring together the heads of state and government of the Hemisphere in November 2025 in the Central American country.
At the end of the ceremony in which the document was signed, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, Roberto Álvarez, recognized that “we assume a great responsibility with total commitment to achieving a successful Summit of the Americas, continuing with these very important processes for the region. This is a small step, but a very significant one.”
Meanwhile, the OAS Secretary General, Luis Almagro, said that the Summits “represent unique opportunities to forge hemispheric consensus at the highest political level in search of solutions to the most pressing problems and challenges of the hemisphere, taking decisive actions in favor of our peoples,” and recalled that “achieving consensus and sustainable results in the Summits was one of the many challenges that we assumed in this administration together with committed hosts, such as Peru and the United States,” countries that hosted the VIII and IX Summits, respectively.
The First Summit of the Americas was held in December 1994 in Miami, United States. This regional meeting brings together the Heads of State and Government of the member states of the hemisphere to discuss political aspects, affirm common values and commit to concerted actions at the national and regional level with the aim of facing present and future challenges in their countries.
