The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, met today with the Chair of Argentina’s White Helmets Commission, Gabriel Ive, at the headquarters of the hemispheric institution in Washington, DC.

During the meeting, Secretary General Insulza highlighted the work carried out by volunteers and the hemispheric organization through the Special OAS-White Helmets Fund. For his part, President Ive reaffirmed the commitment of the Commission to continue cooperating with the Organization as it has done for the past 19 years.

Attending the meeting were the Permanent Representative of Argentina to the OAS, Ambassador Nilda Celia Garré, and the Commission’s Vice Chairman, Esteban Mahiques.

The White Helmets Commission, under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Worship of Argentina, is a body of volunteers trained to support immediate relief efforts, rehabilitation, reconstruction, and development during a natural disaster.
