OAS Mission of Electoral Oversight in Colombia Visits Polling Stations in Parliamentary Elections

The Chief of the Electoral Oversight Mission of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the parliamentary elections in Colombia, José Antonio Viera-Gallo, today visited voting centers in Bogotá.

Viera-Gallo, who was designated to the post by the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, was accompanied by the Director of the Department for Cooperation and Electoral Observation of the OAS, Gerardo de Icaza, and the Deputy Chief of Mission, Alejandro Urizar.

The Mission has deployed a total of 27 observers in five departments of the country, where they will observe various parts of the process, including electoral organization, the use of technology, gender equality, and campaign financing. Once the Mission is complete, a report will be presented to the Permanent Council which will include recommendations with the aim of contributing to the continuing improvement of the Colombian electoral system.
